Historic Avenel

Avenel Image
Avenel, the stately mansion and its landscape, has for over one hundred and fifty years been a centerpiece in the social, cultural, and political life of Bedford. Built circa 1838 by William M. Burwell and his wife, Frances Steptoe Burwell, Avenel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. The building is being renovated as an attractive, convenient, spacious place for business meetings or other events. For more information, contact
