This department deals with all of the City's recreation leagues, it's parks and it's cemeteries.
Events are happening throughout the year in the City and this department
has a hand in almost all of them!
Liberty Lake Park
Located on 122 South (Burks Hill Road), Liberty Lake Park is the largest
park in our system, encompassing 60 acres of land. The park features multiple
playgrounds, a lake and pier for fishing, 3 ball fields with batting cages, lighted tennis
courts, basketball court, outdoor racquetball court, skateboard pod, and roller skating and
walking loop. Other popular attractions are picnic shelters and a system of nature trails which
includes a paved handicapped accessible trail. The Community Center is the site for administrative
offices, classes and programs.
Greenwood Park
Located at the intersection of Greenwood street and Quarles Street,
this three acre park on Edmund Street provided picnic tables, basketball
court, playground equipment and an open area for play.
Edmund Street Park
This one and half acre park on Edmund Street provides
picnic tables, tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment,
and a large open play area.
Poplar Park
Home of the largest Yellow Poplar tree in the United States
and the largest tree in Virginia, Poplar Park is located on Grand Arbre Drive.
Picnic tables and benches are available to the public.
Orange Street
The ball field on Orange Street is home for girls softball.
City Lake
Located on Lake Drive, City Lake is a four acre park that
provides fishing on a small lake in a quiet, wooded setting.
City Park
Located in the center of the city on Main Street, City Park provides
for relaxation and pleasant viewing of the historic downtown district.
Reynolds Park
Reynolds Park encompasses five and a half acres on East Main Street.
It offers walking trails, benches, landscaped gardens and gazebos for
public use.
