The Bedford Police Department is responsible for providing the following services with the City of Bedford:

• Enforcement of state and local laws;
• Motor vehicle and pedestrian safety;
• Crime prevention;
• Detecting and identifying criminal activities;
• Investigation of criminal and suspicious activities;
• Coordinating the City’s response to natural or manmade disasters;
• Crowd control and security at public and special events;
• Animal Control;
• Parking enforcement regulations.

The Bedford Police Department offers a variety of programs and services to the community that are over and above the normal programs and services expected from a police department. These services include the following:

• Security checks - The police department will routinely keep check on homes for those citizens who are away on trips. While the department cannot guarantee each home will be checked daily, efforts will be made to perform these security checks when manpower and call volume allow.
• Neighborhood watch programs - Personnel are available to assist neighborhoods in organizing and establishing neighborhood watch programs.
• Community Policing.
• Drug Abuse Resistance Education Programs.
• Security assessments for home and business owners.
• Public relations programs in a variety of areas relating to law enforcement and crime prevention.
• School resource officer
• Anti auto theft program.
• Weapons in school prevention program.
