City of Bedford Police Department: Recruitment

Bedford is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, ideally situated between Roanoke and Lynchburg, Virginia on U. S. Route 460 and convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bedford has 6054 residents and covers approximately 6.81 square miles with fifty miles of street.

In accordance with the policies of the City of Bedford and Section 15.1-131.8 of the Code of Virginia the following conditions must be met prior to a person’s appointment as a law enforcement officer:

• Be a United States Citizen;
• Undergo a background investigation including a fingerprint based criminal history records inquire;
• Possess a high school education or General Education Diploma;
• Possess a valid driver’s license;
• Be at least 21 years of age;
• Not have been convicted or plead guilty or no contest to a criminal offense;
• Undergo a pre-employment drug screening;
• Undergo a psychological screening, and;
• Not have negative driving points or a history of excessive driving offenses.

In addition, applicants must successfully complete two written exams, a physical agility test and a minimum of two interviews.
