The Landfill Division is responsible for disposal of all solid waste for the town. The Landfill is constructed and operated in accordance with all current environmental regulations. All brush and wood pallets received are shredded and sent off site to be mulched or composted. Leaves and yard debris are composted on site and sold to the public for a small fee ($5.00 per ton).Old appliances and other metals are hauled to shredder and sold for scrap.Old tires are collected and sent to a tire recycling facility. At its last meeting the Town Council elected to remove the self-service dumpsters for the Orange Street landfill effective July 1, 2015.
Town residents are encouraged to use the landfill during normal operating hours (8:00 - 12:00 M-S) and to use the County drop off centers at 1974 Falling Creek Road (7 - 7 daily) and the main County Landfill at 1060 Recycle Road off VA 43 (24 x 7) at other times. The recycling bins will remain in place.
An ID proving town residency must be presented when disposing garbage through the Town of Bedford Landfill. All customers are subject to charges for disposal.
Do you have any auto fluids to dispose of? These fluids are normally taken in at various auto parts distributors. If you have paints that you want to dispose of, they can be solidified using kitty litter, sand, and saw dust then brought to the Landfill for disposal.
