7-2-90 Minutes

An adjourned meeting of the Council of the City of Bedford, Virginia, from the June 26, 1990, regular meeting was held in the Council Hall of the Municipal Building at 8:00 a.m., July 2, 1990.

Members present: Mayor G. Michael Shelton; Councilman Larry D. Brookshier; Vice Mayor John M. Owen, III; Councilman Payton M. Otey; and Councilman James A. Vest.

Members absent: Councilwoman Joanne A. Grahame and Councilman Ronnie C. Rice.

Staff present: Clerk of the Council Teresa W. Hatcher.

Staff absent: City Manager Jack A. Gross and City Attorney W. W. Berry, IV.

The Clerk of Council opened the meeting.

Mrs. Lois Waddell, Chairman of the City Electoral Board, presented the newly elected members of Council with their Certificates of Election.

The Clerk of Council administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected members of Council: Mr. Brookshier, Mr. Vest, and Mr. Otey.

The Clerk of Council opened the floor for nominations for the office of Mayor.

Councilman Brookshier nominated G. Michael Shelton for the office of Mayor. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Otey.

The Clerk call for further nominations. There were none.

On motion by Councilman Brookshier, seconded by Councilman Otey, voted upon and carried, the nominations were closed.

Upon the call for the vote, G. Michael Shelton was elected Mayor.

The Clerk administered the Oath of Office to G. Michael Shelton as Mayor.

Mayor Shelton opened the floor for nominations for the office of Vice Mayor.

Councilman Brookshier nominated John M. Owen, III, for Vice Mayor.

As there were no other nominations, Councilman Brookshier moved that the nominations be closed. The motion was seconded by Councilman Otey, voted upon and carried.

Upon the call for the vote, John M. Owen, III, was elected Vice Mayor.

The Clerk administered the Oath of Office to John M. Owen, III, as Vice Mayor.

Mayor Shelton adjourned the meeting at 8:10 a.m.
