Ventilation Props
Subfacility of Bedford Area Fire Training Center
Ventilation Props include the use of the Pitched Roof Simulator and Flat Roof Simulator. The Pitched Roof Simulator operates off the ground on a mock roof, utilizing pre-fabbed 4'x4' inserts to simulate cutting a hole for vertical ventilation. The Flat Roof Simulator operates on the roof of a conex box where students utilize a pre-set aerial device to gain access to the roof. There you can do traditional 4'x4' cuts, or more favorable the "7-9-8" cut. Located under the roof, in the conex is a burn room with burn pan. There you can have a small controlled fire of a pallet and straw to provide smoke and small amount of heat for the cut. 4'x8' sheets of OSB or Plywood lay on top of the rafters for the cuts on the flat roof. There is no live fire option for the pitched roof simulator.
