The Planning Commission is a local appointed government board that is charged with objectively reviewing and recommending sound and efficient planning regulations to the legislative body of the Town of Bedford. The Planning Commission is the primary entity responsible for long term, comprehensive planning and development. The Commission governs many of the physical characteristics of development such as the width of streets, the provision of sidewalks, the location of parking, and the extent and characteristics of open space. In addition, the Commission establishes zoning resolutions for the regulation of land use and development standards. The Commission is provided advance notification of the location and extent of the construction or authorization of any public street, building, park, open space, or utility, whether public or privately owned, for the purpose of review and approval.
The Planning Commission is responsible for preparing and recommending for adoption by the legislative body the official general plan, known as the Comprehensive Plan, that defines a vision for how the community will look and function in the future. Refer to Comprehensive Plan to view the most recent proposed plan to be considered for adoption by the Town Council. The Commission also hears land use requests for zoning amendments, conditional use permits, and rezoning applications. The Zoning Ordinance is available by clicking the link.
